Consumed This Week - 11.10.17

WORDS. A real book with pages! I was an English major so I love to read. But I’ve become pretty specific about what I read before I go to bed. I avoid non-fiction or the news and electronics. I’m in front of a laptop all day and I’ve totally bought into the hype that we should ditch electronics before bed for a better sleep cycle. So I’ve started ‘The People We Hate at Weddings’ by Grant Ginder. It was recommended to me by a friend from childhood who knows the author. It’s a pretty funny read about a dysfunctional family meeting up at the wedding of a family member. I’m definitely enjoying it for the humor and it’s way better than scrolling through my Facebook feed.
SIGHTS. Revival or repeat? I was really excited when they brought ‘Will & Grace’ back to NBC. I liked the show the first time around and even bought all the seasons on DVD when it was over (and when that was still a thing). But I’m having some problems with it this time around. It feels too political and I’ve already caught four jokes that they used in the original run. But, to be fair, each episode is better than the last so I’m sticking with it.
SOUNDS. I’m thinking it’s time to change my favorite artist. I’m big on having music in the background while I’m working,especially when I’m at a coffee shop because it helps drown out any distractions. I’ve found that I’ve been listening to the same two albums for the past couple of weeks. ‘Just Kids’ and ‘Young Love,’ both by Mat Kearney. I used to call Matt Nathanson my favorite artist, but I think it’s safe to say that Mr. Kearney has taken over the top spot.
TASTES. There are actually fall foods that don’t involve pumpkin! I shocked everyone on the team when I announced that I HATE pumpkin flavored foods. So I’m easily impressed when I find seasonal specials that don’t involve pumpkin or pumpkin spice. Otto Portland, a cool pizza chain making it’s way south, just released their November special: Collard Greens with Pulled Pork & Cornbread. It did not disappoint and won’t be the only one consumed before the end of the month!
